PROMOTIONAL messaging and materials

I designed the messaging and wrote copy to promote awareness about the “Mind Your Risks” campaign at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). I collaborated with designer Dom Phyall to create these conference handouts and promotional materials for raising awareness about the link between high blood pressure and dementia risk.

Website content design and copywriting

I developed the copy and collaborated with a designer on the content design for Overdose Measures Matter, the CDC Foundation’s website of resources for communities and organizations working in overdose prevention. Here are a few sample pages.

Multifaceted CAMPAIGN DEVELOPMENT

I analyzed audience research and developed the three-part “Georgia, What’s On Your Mind?” campaign for the GA Department of Behavioral Health and Disabilities. The statewide campaign includes a tri-fold pamphlet, and radio spot, and a video. I developed the concepts, wrote copy and scripts, and collaborated with a designer on layout for the pamphlet and visual design for the video.

public health (PSA) VIDEO scriptwriting

I wrote the scripts and developed the creative briefs and storyboards for these videos about topics such as concussion care, suicide prevention, and preventing violence against children.

EDUCATIONAL/instructional writing

I’ve designed and written mobile-first graduate level courses and lessons covering a variety of topics for the MBA and MSBA degree programs at the Quantic School of Business & Technology. Content topics included courses in strategic leadership, business writing, executive presence, decision analysis, image & video analysis, data visualization, and data storytelling.

Examples of Quantic’s mobile-first learning platform from the app store.

I also designed and wrote an interactive high school physics course that was translated into Arabic for Syrian refugees and Jordanian youth who are without access to typical classroom instruction for a project called Miya Miya.

Below is a sample lesson I designed and wrote for learners who are looking to understand and apply the behavioral science concept of loss aversion within a business context. This lesson is just a primer in loss aversion—meant to marry theory with practical application—so it’s bite-sized and interactive. To create this lesson, I conducted research, created a scope and sequence, designed interactions and graphics, wrote the copy, and recorded voiceover explanations. I used Sketch to create the designs and Articulate360 for the LMS.

Newspaper editorial writing and BLOG CONTRIBUTING

I’ve written variously about some core interest areas: public K-12 education, civil-military relations, reproductive freedom, democracy and civil society. A few samples:

For The Fulcrum, a publishing project of The Bridge Alliance, I wrote an essay about democracy and civic engagement.

For the The Savannah Morning News, I authored a public K-12 education column called “The Front Row”. In it, I wrote about why we should listen to teachers. I wrote about why some teachers choose to keep teaching and why some others don’t. I profiled the happiest substitute teacher I’ve ever met and a cop-turned teacher. I wrote about how a classical education model and Montessori-style approach can work in a public school setting. I shared how one teacher looks for excellence beyond test results and featured another teacher’s argument for embracing teacher-led education reform. And I wrote about how to make a real difference for real local teachers.

For online outlets including Task & Purpose, I’ve written about how we educate army brats, about gender and leadership, about hope and heartbreak for Ghazni, Afghanistan, about transitioning out of the army, and about why I resent my “army wife” moniker.

NONPROFIT FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN videos

I conceived of, shot some footage for, edited, and produced these promotional videos for Deep Center.

Screenwriting

I write about messy women who make terrible decisions, not that I have any personal experience with that or anything. 😬 Check me out on the Black List.

other things

I’ve done grant-writing, internal, and executive communications, too. But those samples are mostly confidential and not mine to share publicly. For more about my professional background, connect with me on Linkedin!
